Format: Blu-ray Box Sets 0736180 Editorial Review
**** The recent release of the Wagner opera on Blu-ray has elicited mixed reactions from customers, with many praising its artistic presentation while others express disappointment with the audio quality. Directed by Brian Large, this adaptation stands out for its innovative approach to filming an opera, taking advantage of the absence of an audience to offer dynamic camera angles and an engaging visual narrative. The remastered Blu-ray format boasts a noticeable improvement in picture quality over previous DVD versions, allowing for better detail and a more faithful representation of the original analog source. However, while some users appreciate the visual enhancements, several criticisms target the sound quality, which some describe as underwhelming when compared to the CDs or DVDs. Many reviewers indicate that the audio, despite being remixed to DTS-HD MasterAudio 5.1, does not meet the expectations set by prior formats. Artifacts from the original video recording — such as blurriness and over-sharpening — can be visible, which diminishes the overall experience for some viewers. Overall, while the Blu-ray version is recommended for serious collectors and those new to the opera due to its enhanced visual fidelity and additional content like a making-of film, it may not be a substantial upgrade in audio quality from past formats for those already familiar with this particular production. **
